All-Time NBA Starting 5 w/ Key Additions
One of my favorite all-time conversations, the all-time starting 5. I first want to say my team will be able to run and gun, but our bread and butter will most definitely be being able to slow the ball down in the half court setting and pick you apart! Being as though I get to choose the best of the best, each player will ultimately have zero holes in their game. For the most part, I will have a traditional team with a few exceptions and upgrades.
Point Guard:
To begin, I want a traditional floor general that will control the pace, be an extension of the coach on the floor, knock down open shots, create for others, and pick up full court on defense. The ultimate selfless player with winning intangibles I had to go with Isiah Thomas.
Shooting Guard:
My starting two guard will be an all out assassin on offense while being able to lock the opposing team’s best scorer down; hands down this position belongs to Kobe Bryant.
Small Forward:
My starting wing will have similar expectations as the shooting guard, but the only difference being he will be a bit more versatile. I like for this position to be able to do it all and at the highest level no matter what it is, so I had to go with Michael Jordan.
Power Forward:
I would want my starting Power Forward to be the most versatile player on the floor really being able to play every position and role if he is asked to. This spot belongs to LeBron James.
Center:
Being as though the game has evolved and bigs are some of the most skilled players on the floor now; I want my Center to be an all around ball player. He has to be able to hit free throws and run up and down the court sometimes starting the break and initiating the offense, so I went with Nikola Jokic.
6th Man:
My sixth man will come in and provide an immediate spark off the bench on both ends. Constant attack mode on offense and a playmaker on defense he will be able to relieve either guard position. I decided to go with someone we’ve actually seen play this role better than anyone in history in my eyes, Dwayne Wade.
Coach:
For my coach I had to go with a basketball savant who will be able to manage all these big name players and get them to buy in, so I chose Coach K, the man with the plan.
City/Team:
We have great leaders on the team under great coaching so this won’t matter as much, but the environment and culture will always scream Championship expectations from training camp. I had to go with a sports town with great support and an overall great organization, therefore I chose the Boston Celtics.
There you have it! I would put my team up against any other all-time starting five because we not only will have top tier talent, but we will have a cohesive unit that will sacrifice for the betterment of the team in order to Win. What do you think about my ultimate NBA Team and what would you change, if anything? Hopefully, Jordan and Isiah will be able to get along, but I think the Dream Team would have had a 50 point margin if egos did not get in the way.
